Each of our member groups and partners has a specific mandate to serve Francophones in Northwestern Ontario. With the Community Links for Isolated Persons in Thunder Bay project, the Centre francophone is committed to improving the accessibility and longevity of existing services and activities.<\/p>

Seniors Francophone <\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Many factors (health, loss of employment, reduced family ties, etc.) can lead our seniors to feel isolated. The lack of socialization activities in their mother tongue is an additional obstacle for Francophones. At the Centre francophone, we invite seniors to participate in getting together by sharing their interests. The Community Links project provides essential support to our partner L’Accueil francophone de Thunder Bay in the organization of physical and recreational activities or other information sessions on topics that affect seniors.<\/p>

Many partnerships are still possible with organizations offering services to seniors.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Many students in French schools and immersion classes in Thunder Bay and Northwestern Ontario have French as a second language in the classroom. Because opportunities to practice the language are rare, their parents struggle to make French their home language. Yet, the importance of a mother tongue is very often valued.<\/p>

With its partners, the Centre francophone is committed to supporting young people and their families in learning and practicing French. We particularly value intergenerational activities and invite organizers to learn about partnership opportunities by contacting our project management team.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Francophone newcomers<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Every year, Northwestern Ontario receives dozens of newcomers from elsewhere in Ontario, from other provinces in Canada and from other countries. Although French is an official language in Canada, newcomers regularly encounter language barriers when dealing with administrative procedures, settling in, and their professional or personal lives.<\/p>
